One friend of mine shared with me recently the feelings she and her husband had upon hearing an Autism diagnosis of their child - DEVASTATED!
She cried all the way home and then cried more.
Does any one understand how devasated we are? How that devastation just lingers and lingers, not in the form of denial...it all becomes obvious to most but in the continual realization of how hurt our children are?
Why do we care that people see this? Because to ignore what is going on is to turn a blind eye to a disease that is sweeping our country and destroying our families. And yes, every one is starting to know someone with a child with Autism. Only in seeing our devastation can others begin to understand the impact this disease will have on this country, on our children within just a few years. For what we go through will be the worlds burden when the children, and especially the insuffiently treated children, become adults.
Parents, share your devastation. If your burden falls on deaf ears, keep sharing. We have to speak for our children.
My heart is with you,
Katherine Lee
