As an Autism therapist for your child, you need to seek out critique of your Autism therapy.
You should as team members, consultants...any one whose opinion might be valuable, to view your tapes or even watch you live. Here`s how to prepare for the feedback:
- Give permission to the critic to be hard on you. You`ll get the best feedback if you show that your feelings won`t get hurt.
- Tell yourself over and over that training critique is not personal. This is a learning time. Your good training is all about helping your child.
- Carry a notebook with you every time you are being reviewed. Take notes and look at them later.
- Make a list of specific questions you have about your therapy. This will help the consultant (or whoever)
- Be willing to learn. The worst error we can make for our children is that of pride. We need to remain humble. Every time our child makes an advance, we have new things to learn ourselves.
Finally, you need to review your own tape on a regular basis. No matter how much you tell people not to worry about hurting your feelings, they will hold back. Reviewing your own tape will help you be familiar with typical errors you make. You will learn to judge yourself. But not too harshly. We are all always learning.
Let's get going!,
