All of these treatments have produced beneficial results of different levels.  Matthew is a different child from before when we started.

We started with a child that was like a zombie in his own little world, incapable of speech, unable to indicate wants and needs.  He would bang his head on the floor in frustration.

We are not done; Matthew is not recovered... yet.  He has a few more years of therapy still; but he is in first grade this year, with normal functioning children, without a shadow.  He talks, laughs, plays with other children appropriately and "passes" for a normal functioning child to many people's observation- after 5 years of ABA and Dietary/Bio-Medical intervention.

He will continue with a Casein Free- Gluten Free diet, but we have begun rotating in foods that were on his food allergy list as low level allergic reactants.  The results of his progress have been due in large part to BOTH his ABA and his Dietary/Bio-Medical program.  Specifically, results seen with each form of Bio-Medical treatment, for my son, are shown below:

Casein-Free Diet - Normalized bowel movements, improved awareness of his environment and Improved behavior
Food Allergy Testing - Helped identify food allergies for targeted diet
Gluten-Free Diet - Improved behavior and increased language
Vitamins and Supplements - Reduced "Stimming",  improved bowel elimination and improved overall health (reduced periods of sickness)
Chelation - Increased language skills were noticed (complete sentences).

In conclusion, we have observed a great impact upon Matthew from his Dietary/Bio-Medical program.  The important thing for a parent to do in deciding to pursue a Bio-Medical treatment is to do so under a Doctor's supervision, but NOT just ANY Doctor or pediatrician.  You have got to find a physician that is specifically interested in treating the medical problems that commonly arise in kids with Autism.  A good place to start looking is the list located at http://autismndi.com/doctors.htm.  Children are different, it is true, but many kids are finding relief from combinations of these same therapies we have listed.  Different children will respond differently to different therapies.  But;  you and your Doctor, as a team, can find the right combination of therapies to help your child.

It will require persistence and patience and a lot of reading, but you can do it!!
