The Others in Our Lives Minimize
You know dear friends that the others in our lives are so important.

I think I`m speaking more to them today.  I talk to so many parents who need a support system to sustain a home program. A family member, friends... some one. One friend of mine just had a long visit from her mother n law. Just having the clothes folded and some one to pick the children up was such a relief. Now I`m sure, if you don`t have a home program, you are thinking that would be a lift of burden for any one...and to be sure it would. But the relief when these things are overshadowing your efforts toward  your child`s wellness...well, let`s just say it is a big relief, even if just temporary.

Unfortunately, home programs are often left to one spouse, with the other working out of the home and thinking they "have a job".  Dear friends, this is a harmful attitude.  While boardering on denial any way, it also sends the message that your child`s wellness and the health of your spouse, is not top priority, but rather your rest after a long days work...discarding the fact that your family has worked as hard or harder.  My dear husband hits the door running when he gets home.  He has always considered us to have worked as hard or harder than himself on the program and wants to pitch in.  Some times work takes him away (as in recent days) but he fights to make sure he is here as much as he can be and when he pulls his weight.

Of course, the practical daily aspects of the program has to be done by one main person.  I`ve seen it by the mom, some times the dad and even at times grandparents.  But every family member who is immediately in the child`s life must take responsibility.  It can make all the difference for best outcome for your child and your life.

My heart is with you,

Katherine Lee
